Challenge

Our partners at ZDF are developing the ZDF heute app in an agile process. Quality assurance must adapt to the standards and guarantee flexible solutions. 

Changes to the app must be monitored efficiently in the long term. To this end, automated tests are to be set up that run in parallel with development. A particular challenge for ZDF is the broad target group and the associated wide variety of devices used by app users.

The common goal: The integration of QA processes into agile development, with the immediate start of manual testing and the parallel development of automated processes. 

How did we start the project?

The basic requirement for our partners was the immediate start of the project and the generation of test results. Thanks to a hybrid approach consisting of manual testing and test automation, manual testing was able to start after a short time. The development teams were provided with initial information on errors, and at the same time the manual test cases were used as a basis for setting up automated processes.

How did we proceed?

Our teams from the specialist areas of manual and automated testing complement each other in the development, implementation, and maintenance of testing processes and workflows in the agile process. Interdisciplinary collaboration enables tests to be implemented efficiently.

Strategy and 
measures

The QA strategy consists of specific measures.

1) Test plan creation and coordination
In consultation with the ZDF heute team, our experts quickly drew up all the necessary test cases that form the basis for manual and automated tests.

2) Development of the automated cases 
Based on the test cases, our test automation engineers were able to start programming and integrate them into the automation framework favored by ZDF. 

3) Hybrid approach through manual testing
Parallel to programming, we carried out manual tests to ensure a high level of test coverage at an early stage

4) Weekly realization  
The automated tests are carried out on a weekly basis. Our test analysts process and communicate any errors found to ZDF Development. Detailed reporting is also provided for all stakeholders. 

 

 

Result

Thanks to our agile QA solutions, we were able to transfer ZDF's requirements into the test processes. Together we achieved the goal:
